Crop Production
Grant County is located in the Southwest corner of Kansas approximately 30 miles from the Colorado line to the west and 30 miles from the Oklahoma border to the south. At the altitude of 3057 feet above sea level and receiving 17 inches of annual rainfall, the 305,000 acres in farms relies heavily on irrigation. Currently around 156,900 acres of major crops of Wheat, Corn, Grain Sorghum, and Alfalfa as well as Sunflowers, Cotton and Potatoes are harvested. Cropping history of the county also includes commercial production of tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe and sugar beets.
